We all know Microsoft has a reputation of releasing some of the most technologically advanced softwares out there. In fact, it is the pioneer of computer technology itself. From our beloved Windows 95 to Windows 10 S now, Microsoft has been constantly supplying us with amazing products. The Windows 10 S was recently added to its collection and made headlines throughout the tech industry with the new and improved features from its parent, Windows 10. But this post isn’t about the Windows 10 S because Microsoft recently announced the release of something else that needs our attention – Microsoft Surface Laptop.
Now we know for a fact that Microsoft develops amazing softwares but there is a little doubt when it comes to its gadgets. In the past few years, Microsoft hasn’t created an actual, physical device that received the amount of credit its competitors did. Even the XBOX 360 was more or less trumped by Sony’s PlayStation 4 (some XBOX fans might disagree!). But that has all changed with the introduction of this ultra-sleek, smart laptop. The Microsoft Surface Laptop is claimed to have some incredible features and specifications that make it stand out from the rest. It has even been likened to the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air by Apple, some of the best laptops in the market right now.
Are you curious to know what’s so great about the Microsoft Surface Laptop? Read on!
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
We have to start with the battery life because it is the cornerstone of the Microsoft Surface Laptop that puts it a level a head from any other laptop in the market. An impressive battery life of 14.5 hours is what the laptop offers which is more than any laptop known
The Microsoft Surface Laptop comes in two versions – with the Intel Dual-Core i5 processor, and the Intel Dual-Core i7 processor. While both processors are great, the i7 obviously has better performance. The i7 processor has been compared to being as good or even better than Macbook Air, so we can assume the Microsoft Surface Laptop to be incredibly fast and powerful.
MEMORY & STORAGE:
The Core i5 has a 4 GB RAM, with additional memory storage of a 128 GB SSD card. The Core i7 has, on the other hand, has an internal memory with two types – 8 GB RAM and 16 GB RAM, with SSD card memory options of 256 GB and 512 GB.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop has a 2256 x 2504 Full HD display with the display screen measuring 13.5 inches. It is a touch-screen and has an extremely slim design (only of a 14 mm thickness). It is probably one of the thinnest displays a laptop can offer.
The Microsoft Surface Laptops comes with two different graphics options – the Intel HD Graphics 620, and the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640.
This laptop is sturdy but lightweight. It weighs only 1.25 kg so you can carry it around anywhere easily, making it travel-friendly.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop has the basic ports included in its design. It has a 3.0 USB port, an SD card slot, a port to connect the Surface Laptop charge, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. A unique thing about this laptop is that it has no external holes or vents that allows air to escape from anywhere inside the hardware. Now, this could potentiate the problem of overheating but Microsoft naturally had a solution to that. The back of the laptop is connected with vapor chambers that allow the device to cool and prevent it from getting too hot.
We already mentioned the 3.5 mm audio jack for your headphones, but for the speakers, there’s something even cooler. Since the laptop hosts no holes or vents, the speakers are almost internally place too, at the back of the keypad. The exact nature and properties of the audio and sound are not yet known and can only be found after the laptop is released to the public market.
KEYPAD & MOUSE:
The keypad is backlit like most new laptops but the mouse is definitely something you’ve never seen before. The release of the Microsoft Surface Laptop the release of the simultaneous release of the Microsoft Surface Mouse. This mouse is unlike any other mouse created and yes, we’re basically talking about its design and looks. The Microsoft Surface Mouse has an arched design and connects via Bluetooth to the laptop. Here’s the scary part, though – it costs a whopping $80 but don’t worry, you don’t have to absolutely purchase it (although we strongly recommend you do for the full Microsoft experience!)
With the introduction of the Surface Mouse, Microsoft also brings its Surface Pen that can be used on the touch-screen display of the laptop (US $60). You can also purchase the external Surface Keyboard (US $99), the Surface Dial (US $99), and the Surface Dock (US $200).
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is available in four different colors – Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Graphite Gold.
Depending upon your choice of the processor, storage and graphics, the Microsoft Surface Laptop costs a minimum US $999 and a maximum US $ 2199. The price tags on it definitely elevate it to the high-end laptop group.
MICROSOFT SURFACE LAPTOP vs. MACBOOK AIR
To prove the claims, it’s important that we compare the two laptops that are competing against each other. In a nutshell, Apple’s Macbook Air has these major differences the Microsoft’s new laptop – it has an internal memory of only 8 GB, whereas the Microsoft Laptop has a range of 4 to 16 GB RAM. The Macbook Air weighs about 1.35 kg, making it slightly heavier than Microsoft’s 1.25 kg Surface Laptop. The Macbook Air hosts multiple ports including two USB 3.0 ports, MagSafe 2, Thunderbolt 2.0, and two SD card slots – a range that is quite more expansive than the Microsoft Surface Laptop. The price range of the Macbook Pro also varies as it starts from US $950 to US $1099.
